This is one of those movies that surprised me. It had been sat on my shelf for several months after it was loaned to me by my father-in-law. It never really peaked my interest.

I am so upset for waiting so long. This was one of the most original and thought provoking films I have seen in a long time.

The film follows a college professor who goes to New York and stays in the apartment he has there for the first time in several months to find two people subletting it. He becomes friends with them and then gets caught up in trouble when one of them is arrested and then is put into detention to be deported. It also tells the story of the professor's finding of himself and learning to change his life that was stuck in a rut.

The movie is extremely well written. Richard Jenkins is fantastic in the role of the out of place professor and new comers Haaz Sleiman and Danai Jekesai Gurira are great in their portrayal of the illegal immigrants.

The movie really makes you stop and think about the fate and treatment of illegals, some of which have been in the county for decades.

The direction of the film is extremely well handled and the bleak setting of the detention facility is chilling.
